What we keep
Your name, email address and mobile number, so the story can reach you and so we can send receipts.
A record of your consent to texts: the words you agreed to, when, from which page, and when you replied YES.
The messages you send to characters, so the story can answer and so a game master can help if something goes wrong.
Your orders. Card payments are handled by Stripe: we never see or store your card number.
What we use it for
Running your story, sending receipts and reminders, and asking for one review when you finish.
We email about new stories only if you tick the box to hear about them. We never send marketing texts.
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits to this site. It doesn't use cookies or track you across other sites.
Text messaging
We use your mobile number only to run the stories you sign up for, confirm your number, and ask for a review.
No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third parties, excluding aggregators and providers of the text message services.
Text STOP to any of our numbers to stop all our texts, or HELP for help.
Who else sees it
In a group story, the other players see your first name and anything you post in the story's group chat. They never see your number.
Our service providers process data for us: Twilio (texts), our email provider, Stripe (payments), Anthropic (which helps characters understand and answer what you write), and our hosting provider. They can't use it for anything else.
We don't sell your personal information, and we don't share it for advertising.
How long we keep it
We keep story messages for 12 months after your story ends, then delete them. We keep order records and consent records for as long as the law requires.
Your rights
You can download everything we hold, or delete your account, from My stories. You can also ask us at help@numberwithheld.com. Depending on where you live, you may have more rights under your state's law. We'll honor them, and we won't treat you differently for using them.
Children
Our stories are for adults. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
Cookies
We use three small cookies: one to keep you signed in, one to protect forms from misuse, and one to remember a friend's invite link. None of them track you.
